Ceratophrys is a genus of frogs in the family Ceratophryidae. due to their appearanceround shape and large mouth they are also known as South american horned frogs as well as Pacman frogs.

Distribution and habitat

They are widely distributed in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French guiana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela. This frog occurs in grasslands on the ground near temporary waterbodies, and also occurs in roadside ditches and in irrigated cropland.

Ceratophrys characteristics

These frogs are also known to be cannibalistic, and are known to eat their mates, albeit they are larger than they’re. These frogs are fairly large, ranging from 7 to 15 centimeters long. The body is incredibly spherical and therefore the head is prominent. Color of males will vary from tan or lime to dark inexperienced. Sometimes, males show all of those colours at the same time, whereas females are typically simply tan.The most characteristic feature of this species is that the presence of horns on top of the eyes.
