The northern giraffe is also called three-horned giraffe, this is a planned species of giraffe native to north africa. The Northern giraffe is an artiodactyl mammal that belongs to the mammal family family. The West African giraffes once lived in algeria and Morocco in ancient periods until their extinctions due to the Saharan dry climate. That has 3 subspecies: the giraffe giraffe, the kordofan giraffe kordofan West African or Nigerian giraffe.

Distribution and habitat

The Northern giraffes live in the savannahs, bushes and woodlands. In east africa, they are mostly found in kenya and southwestern ethiopia, though rarely in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. The aberdare national park in kenya offers a superb habitat to giraffes.

Northern giraffe characteristics

The males are taller than the females. The giraffes have two horn-like protuberances known as ossicones on their foreheads. The eyes which are from three to five inches long. All giraffes have irregular brown spots, however the northern species has the paler ones. The legs spots fade being less intense at knee height, however below them, they’re much white.
