Hampshire Pig
The Hampshire pig is a domestic swine breed. The Hampshire breed is possibly the oldest, early-American breed of hogs in existence today. These pigs were referred to as the “Old English Breed”. The american National swine registry notes this as the fourth “most-recorded breed” of pig raised as livestock in the united states, and probably the oldest american breed of hog.
The Hampshire, which is a heavily muscled, lean meat breed, is the fourth most recorded breed of the pigs in the united states.
Distribution and habitat
It is believed to have derived from English Breed, found in northern England and Scotland. The breed is thought to have been brought to America from Hampshire, England between 1827 and 1839. Pigs remaining in this part of England developed later into the wessex Saddleback. The wessex Saddleback pig breed is similar in coloration to the Hampshire pig, but with flop ears and they are kept largely for foraging in the forest.

The Hampshire pig may be a medium sized breed of pig. it’s erect ears and black body, with a whitish band round the middle, covering the front legs. Body of the animal is well engineered with long legs and noses, creating the breed well-liked for meat production.

Use of Hampshire Pig
The Hampshire pig is known and noted for being fast growers and well-muscled, and for exhibiting sensible body quality once used as meat animals. Even it grow quicker than the Yorkshires, however don’t grow as quick as several cross-breeds. Once used as breeding stock, the sows of this breed are praised for their capability as mothers, having “extra longevity within the sow”.
It exhibit good body quality and very good for using for meat production. The sows are excellent mothers, and have extra longevity.
