The kordofan giraffe is a subspecies of giraffe. Genetic work has revealed discovered that all “West African giraffe” in European zoos are in fact kordofan giraffe. The kordofan giraffe is a subspecies whose native range includes southern Chad, the Central African Republic, northern Cameroon, the northern Democratic Republic of Congo and probably South Sudan.

Distribution and habitat

Currently there are nine recognised subspecies of giraffe living in geographically distinct areas across africa. The kordofan giraffe inhabits some of the most unstable regions in the world: southern Chad, the Central African Republic, northern Cameroon and northern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kordofan giraffe characteristics

Compared to most other subspecies, the kordofan is relatively small at five to six meters, with a lot of irregular spots on the inner legs. the color varies from brown to a chic chestnut. Adult males weigh as much as four,000 lbs. they’re characterised by having 2 knobs, known as ossicones, on their head. Some people could have extra bumps on the edges of their skulls that are irregularly placed.
