A rare heritage turkey breed, the Midget White is classified as “Critical” by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. It is also included in the Ark of Taste, a catalog of foods in danger of extinction.

The breed was actually developed for meeting an anticipated demand for a small version of the Broad Breasted turkey. Since this market didn’t develop as predicted, the Midget White turkey never become widely popular.

Long productive outdoor lifespan: the Heritage Turkey must have a long productive lifespan. Breeding hens are commonly productive for 5-7 years and breeding toms for 3-5 years.
