It is a popular game fish and has been introduced to a variety of localities outside its native range. it is the foremost portrayed member of this family of seafood in Europe. Sander lucioperca are usually referred to as pike-perch. Zander aren’t, as is commonly believed, a pike and perch hybrid.

Distribution and habitat

The zander is very widely distributed across eurasia, occurring in the drainages of the Caspian, Baltic, Black, Aral, North and aegean sea basins. Its northern distribution limit is finland. It’s been introduced to nice Great Britain, southern Europe, and continental Europe west of the Elbe, Ebro, river and Jucar drainages, further on Anatolia, north africa, Siberia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakstan.

Sander lucioperca inhabit fresh bodies, preferentially massive rivers and eutrophic lakes. They tolerate briny water and can create use of coastal lakes and estuaries. people living in briny water habitats migrate upstream (for up to 250 km) for spawning.

The natural diet includes anything edible that moves – small fish, ducklings and amphibians. Zander mouths have a smaller gape than pike, therefore though massive fish are nearly solely carnivorous, they take abundant smaller prey than a pike of comparable size.
